Atlanta nonprofit helps owners of terminally ill or seriously injured pets ensure their pets get the care they need so they can stay with their owners until the end .
“As a social worker, I have seen the impact of a serious illness or traumatic injury on someone’s life. I really wanted to provide a service to help people in a way that I feel like they weren’t being served, which is their pets. » Founder Beverly Means said.
The organization connects with pet owners who find themselves unable to care for their pets due to their condition and provides free services such as dog walking, transportation to veterinary care, grooming, food and more.
“The dog-walking piece becomes really difficult for someone who has a serious illness. Their stamina is low or their energy level or they just have continuous pain. These are the kind of people we want to be able to help,” Means explained.
“We also help relocate pets so they don’t end up in one of our overwhelmed community shelters,” she added.
Since its inception, the nonprofit has helped approximately 40 pet owners with serious illnesses or injuries, totaling approximately 500 pet care visits in the Atlanta metro area.
“Our vision is that all owners of end-of-life pets can enjoy the peace and comfort of their pets throughout their lives.”
