Golf is a wonderful pastime and a popular backdrop for summer fundraisers.
Among the outings planned for this season is the Sister Diane Memorial golf outing on August 22 at Greystone Golf Club in Washington Township hosted by the Gianna House Pregnancy and parental residence.
This is the ninth year of the event which benefits Gianna House and honors Sr. Diane Masson, whose vision and compassion for young women in need prompted the founding of the house in Eastpointe.
“Sister Diane Masson’s goodwill, camaraderie and spirit are reflected in our annual golf performance. His vision really empowers those of us who strive to make it a success every year,” said Jamie Spriet, Gianna House Board Chair, of the founder who died in 2017. “ Those who attend or donate to this annual event support residents and community outreach programs. Gianna House offers.”
The cost is $150 per golfer or $600 per foursome.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. on the day of the event followed by a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
It’s a great day for everything including driving range service, green fees, golf cart, continental breakfast, lunch at the turn and a steak and chicken dinner with a celebration at the upscale bar at the end.
The Hole-in-One is sponsored by Crest Lincoln-Crest Ford.
Of course, what’s a summer evening without raffle baskets and silent auction items? Raffle tickets for cash prizes will be available for $5 and can be purchased at the event.
Gianna House is a non-profit organization that provides a safe residence for pregnant teens and young women and their babies while providing spiritual, educational, medical, and parenting support and resources to underserved mothers ages 18-25.
“The community we live in benefits from the presence of Gianna House. The services and shelter we provide to our young girls and babies are a “helping hand, not a handout”. Our work begins with opening up new possibilities for our residents and families in the community. The good work continues to get better thanks to the sums that our generous golfers and donors provide each year,” said Spriet.
Residents can stay home for up to a year after their baby is born, giving them time to complete high school and other online training in parenting, independent living skills, coping strategies, and more. life, money management, personal development and more. Money raised from the golf outing will provide food, shelter, education, care and life skills to our resident young mothers and their babies; but also, offering our mothers clothes and baby equipment as well as online courses to improve their daily lives.
Gianna House also provides aftercare services to support a successful transition to independence.
“I call Gianna House ‘heaven’ because if it weren’t for their incredible caring and dedicated staff, I don’t know where I would be today,” said a mother from Gianna House.
Proceeds from the golf outing will also contribute to efforts to expand the north wing of Gianna House to accommodate the number of mothers and babies served.
