The Landers Auto Group completed the acquisition of King Cotton Ford and King Cotton Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram in Covington. King Cotton Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will be renamed Landers Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram North and will remain at 959 US 51 North. King Cotton Ford will be renamed Landers Ford North and will remain at 965 Highway 51 North, Covington. This location will be the third Landers Ford dealership in the region.
Neel Schaffer recently announced Said El Said has joined the company and will serve as Director of Transportation Systems based in the company’s Nashville office. He recently earned a doctorate in transportation philosophy from Vanderbilt University and joins Neel-Schaffer after an 18-year career with the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Director of Transportation Systems is a new position for Neel-Schaffer, created to better serve customers as transportation technology rapidly evolves and now includes applications such as connected vehicles, unmanned aerial systems (drones) and smart infrastructure. El Said is a registered professional engineer in Tennessee and a 2019 graduate of the TDOT Executive Leadership Academy. He received a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee and a Doctor of Philosophy in Transportation from Vanderbilt University.
Baptist Memorial Hospital – Memphis won the American College of Cardiologyy’s NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for a sixth consecutive year. The award recognizes Baptist Memphis’ commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients in accordance with the American College of Cardiology/American Clinical Care Standards Heart Association. Baptist Memphis is one of 240 hospitals nationwide to receive this honor. To receive the Platinum Performance Achievement Award from Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry, Baptist Memphis has demonstrated sustained achievement in the Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry for two consecutive years (2020 and 2021) and performed at the highest level for performance measures specific. Full participation in the registry engages hospitals in a robust quality improvement process using data to improve adherence to guideline recommendations and the overall quality of care provided to heart attack patients.
Memphis and Mid-South Junior Achievement is launching Startup Park by FedEx, a program for area fifth and sixth graders to engage in initial entrepreneurship education, with a focus on minority and women-owned businesses. Through this hands-on program, which begins in January, students will meet Black, Brown and women entrepreneurs whose businesses are in the early stages of development and who represent various industries and communities in the Mid-South. “Nothing can replace a student seeing someone like them succeed in business,” says Jason Campbell, Junior Achievement Board Member and Vice President of Operations and System Support for FedEx Custom Critical. Startup Park by FedEx is located in Junior Achievement’s new experiential learning center at 516 Tillman in Binghampton.
Recently, IMC companies, one of the nation’s largest drayage companies, hosted a ribbon cutting and open house for its new headquarters at 1305 Schilling Boulevard in Collierville. The 75,000 square foot facility is home to over 375 team members.
Capital of the river city announced a $1.7 million grant from the University of Memphis, as part of the largest grant in U of M history. In June, the area’s only local CDFI moved to its new offices in the downtown Gilmore Building. Community LIFT, the parent company of River City Capital, announced that the grant will help alleviate key barriers to self-sufficiency for minority-owned businesses in West Tennessee. As part of the largest University of Memphis grant, history will be a $25 million Tennessee Opportunity Pilot Initiative (TOPI) Implementation Grant for Relational and Generational Household Wealth Growth of West Tennessee (GROWWTH).
Regional One Health announcement Premier Horizon Foundation donated $300,000 to ONE Health, a program that identifies vulnerable patients who make frequent emergency room visits or have many hospital stays and addresses their medical needs as well as social needs such as housing, food and transportation to improve their lives. The donation will span over three years to supplement the salaries of a nurse case manager and a certified clinical social worker on the complex care team. Care team members work directly with ONE Health patients from the time they register until they are able to manage their own health needs and effectively use ONE Health resources. the community for support.
