The department said as of Monday, its online admissions system had 151,949 applications for 1st year and 198,258 applications for 8th year.
Today, a total of 350,207 applications have been submitted.
On July 22, the GDE call center received an average of 1,700 calls per hour regarding online admissions for 2023.
“Today, 350 calls were answered every hour on average.
Additionally, the GDE WhatsApp line received around 3,200 messages on Friday, while today there were around 7,200 requests.
“As a result, our team handled all these requests efficiently.
According the GDE, more and more consumers are choosing to make their requests via WhatsApp, which seems to be a game changer.
The deadline for grades 1 and 8 to submit an online application for 2023 admissions is August 19, 2022 at midnight.
Parents and guardians must register at www.gdeadmissions.gov.za to create personal login credentials for their application profile before they can submit an application.
The agency has advised all parents to upload relevant documentation to the online admissions system or provide certified copies of documentation to the schools to which they have applied.
Application submission and downloading of the system are not permitted in schools.
Panyaza Lesufi, the MEC for Gauteng Education, said the department is pleased with the progress its system has made in handling the huge volume of applications.
“In fact, the improvements to the system have contributed significantly to its smooth operation.
If parents or guardians need help applying, they can contact us at our various locations, Lesufi said.
Applicants are encouraged to telephone the department’s call center on 0800 000 789 or use WhatsApp on 060 891 0361 for assistance with the application process.
Those who wish to apply but do not have the necessary tools or internet connection are advised to visit their local district office or one of the department’s decentralized walk-in centers for assistance.
